Organic Mechanics
Sound II Light – Patchworks, London.
At Patchworks, we showcased Organic Mechanics, a mixed media installation, which was co-created by artists Nicole Gordon and Hannah Brown. The installation explored the fascinating parallels between natural organisms and man-made machinery, igniting curiosity in the complex relationships that exist between humanity, technology, and the natural world. Drawing inspiration from the growth of fungal systems and mycelial networks, we translated hand-drawn images into immersive laser projections that slowly evolve and transform over time.
We also collaborated with sound artist rRoxymore, who composed an eight-minute soundscape based on her album 'Perpetual Now', using spatial audio technology on an 8-point Function One system to take visitors on a journey through tempo, texture, and emotion.
The installation spanned an impressive 15 meters in length, incorporating 30 meters of laser voile, 16 meters of custom LED lights, and two lasers. Although the design was intentionally minimalist, it was a challenging undertaking that required me to delve into the technical side of things.
This project was commissioned by Sova Audio and Waltham Forest Council for Sound II Light, March 2023, Patchworks, London.
